Life is filled with lots of firsts. Just ask JoJo.
After dropping her first album in over a decade with Mad Love. last month, the vocal powerhouse stopped by Rap-Up HQ to discuss her many “firsts” including the first concert she attended, the first album she bought, and her first crush.
“Me and my best friend were obsessed with Bow Wow,” she reveals. “So when he was on my song ‘Baby It’s You,’ everybody was like, ‘Oh my God! You’re so lucky!’ But he wasn’t checking for me.”
Even though she was “obsessed” with Shad Moss, he wasn’t her first starstruck moment. That title belongs to the Queen, Beyoncé.
“She was so gracious and beautiful,” JoJo says. “She sang a few lines of one of my songs to me and I could’ve died right there.”
From Bow to Bey, several stars helped JoJo have her “firsts.” Another one came with Britney Spears, who she met at a radio music festival when she was just eight or nine.
“I sang for each security guard until I made my way to Britney Spears and sang for her,” she recalls. “Her management offered me a production deal. She was like 17 or 18 at the time…She was probably just freaked out because I was such a little girl. I was growling…I was such a weirdo.”
