A new development of micro-homes is being built in College Park, Georgia. Booker Washington, the investor and real estate developer behind the project, South Park Cottages, envisions it as the first Black-developed micro-community in the US. Located on three acres near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the 29 units are all under 1,000 square feet and include a full kitchen, bathroom, and living space. There is also a dog park, vegetable garden, and walking trails within the community. The units at South Park Cottages sold for prices ranging from $190,000 to $230,000, significantly lower than the average home price in Atlanta, which is over $400,000. Washington hopes to make homeownership accessible and affordable for everyone through this development.
